Construction Site Management NVQ Level 6 Diploma

What is the purpose of this qualification and who is it for?

Construction Site Management NVQ Level 6 DiplomaThe aim of this qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence demonstrated by an individual in the workplace. This Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management – General provides the opportunity for individuals who specialise in general construction contracting management to demonstrate their competence.

This qualification is appropriate for employees in the Construction and the Built Environment sector working across a broad range of areas. It is designed to assess occupational competence in the workplace where learners have managerial responsibilities, technical skills and knowledge at a level required by the construction industry for their position. These should be across a broad range of activities with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy.

The units in this qualification are derived from National Occupational Standards

Course objectives

This qualification is the new QCF NVQ and replaces the old Level 4 Construction Contracting Operations. The pathways are ESTIMATING, BUYING, PLANNING, SURVEYING and GENERAL. A learner has to prove competence over a number of credits from the mandatory units, with the remaining credits being achieved through the units designed for the particular pathways.

Candidates must show their competence by applying their knowledge and skills whilst carrying out a broad range of varied work activities, most of which are complex & non-routine. Candidate job roles will have considerable autonomy or responsibility, and often require them to manage others.

This NVQ is suitable for Assistant Site Supervisors, First line supervisors or those beginning a construction supervisory role in any one of a number of areas. It allows for the recognition of tasks currently being performed, measured against the National Occupational Standards for the Construction Industry, and can act as a development tool to progress a candidate’s knowledge, competence and performance.

This NVQ is suitable for those working as a Construction Operative eg working as an Assistant in a Buying, Surveying, Planning, Site Technical Support, Estimating or a General role. It allows for the recognition of initial competences, measured against the National Occupational Standards for the Construction Industry, and can act as a development tool to progress a candidate’s knowledge, competence and performance.

Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) 5 Days

Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) 5 Days

Who is the course for?

This course is administered by Construction Skills, and is designed for all individuals responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering a work force. Typically these would be site managers, potential site managers, supervisors, and anyone with health and safety responsibilities.

Course Content Includes:

  • Health & Safety legal responsibilities
  • Managing Health & Safety at work
  • Risk assessments
  • Management of sub-contractors
  • Measuring & monitoring of performance
  • Hazards – Asbestos, Electricity, Fire
  • New Roads & Streetworks
  • Working at Height
  • Personal protection

Completion of the course:

Course assessment is determined by achievement in four criteria:

  • Full attendance of all sessions
  • Key exercises undertaken during the course
  • Overall assessment by tutor
  • Written examination paper

Successful candidates will receive the SMSTS certificate awarded by Construction Skills.

SSSTS – Site Supervisor’s Safety Training Scheme

Who is the course for?

This course is administered by Construction Skills, and is designed for first line managers or those about to acquire supervisory duties. It explains the individual’s legal and moral responsibilities, and gives guidance in the monitoring of safety practices of groups of operatives. It will prepare candidates for the more involved Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).

  • Hazards on site

Completion of the course:

Candidates will complete a written test, and successful candidates will receive the SSSTS Certificate issued by Construction Skills.

Plant Managers Safety Training Scheme (PMSTS) 5 Days

This course is for plant managers, trainers, testers, instructors, inspectors, workshop managers, project managers, agents and persons who are responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering staff and workforce. At the end of this course delegates will be aware of and able to: implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation that affects them during their daily work. Implement new guidance and industry best practice, state their duties and responsibilities with regard to health, safety welfare and the environment.

IOSH Managing Safety for Construction Managers 4 Days

Managing Safety is for those required to manage safely and effectively in compliance with both their organisations policy and best practice in Health and Safety. This 4 day course will incorporate aspects of health and safety, including working at heights, manual and mechanical handling and working in confined spaces.

IOSH Managing Safety for Construction Managers Refresher 1 Day

This 1 day refresher course enables candidates to renew their IOSH managing safely for Construction Managers Certificate.

IOSH Safety for Senior Executives 1 Day

This course should enable executives to review policy and strategies and, where necessary, introduce changes to enhance the safety culture within their organisation. This course is intended for people with strategic responsibility for determining and implementing effective health and safety management within an organisation.

IOSH Managing Safely 4 Days

This course is designed for managers and supervisors in any sector and any organisation. It is designed to give managers all they need to know to help them handle health and safety in their teams.

NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety 12 Days

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a qualification designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities (e.g. Managers, Supervisors and Employee Representatives) to carry out their organisational duties and functions more effectively and to protect the organisations they work for.
